In March 1827 Mary Muirhead along with Allan Grant, James Kenney Stewart and Isaballa Kerr or Gray took trial at Edinburgh High Court of Justiciary. They were originally charged with the January 1827 murder of a Mark Dow - but were only convicted of theft from the deceased. The circumstances are outlined in the Convict Record of Allan Grant transported for Life in May 1827 on the shop Champion.
