Edward Mullady was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 14th Jul 1816 and arriving 20th Dec 1816 with 150 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Date of Document- 1825. The humble petition of Edward Malady of the District of Bringelly, Humbly showeth that your Petitioner arrived in this Colony per ship Surrey in the years 1816, sentence 7 years. That he faithfully served Government as a Stockman for 4 years. Petitioner has never been favoured with any indulgence from Government and now most humbly solicits your Excellency to be graciously pleased to favour him with a grant of Land. Your Excellency’s Petitioner has 3 head of Horned Cattle and has every requisite to enter upon a farm. May your Excellency be graciously pleased to take the Petitioner’ into your favourable notice and grant his request, and Petitioner as in Duty bound will ever pray, Signed, Edward Malady. I have heard a most favorable report of Petitioner, and therefore recommend him to a favourable consideration. Thos. Reddall, Resident Clergyman. Another comment, but not legible. -------------------------------------------------- Dated: Appin, 10th March 1837 To His Excellency, Sir Richard Bourke, K.C. B. etc. The Humble Memorial of Edward Malady, Most humbly showeth that your memorialist arrived to this Colny per Ship Surrey (2) in 1816, a prisoner for 7 years. That after your Memorialist became free he made application according to the regulations at that time to his Excellency Sir Thomas Brisbane K.C. B. for a Grant of Land to which an answer was received by your Memorialist allowing him to selcet (50) fifty acres, a short time after an Advertisement appeared in the Gazette directing all persons holding letters for selection of Land to leave them at the Office of (Mr Oxley) the Surveyor General, your Memorialist attended accordingly left his letter and stated that he had selected his land at Currayjong Brush, and was informed that his name with His Excellency’s order to take possession would be advertised in the Gazette. That your Memorialist was shortly after that time afflicted with a disorder in his Eyes, and was confined in the Hospital nearly blind for about (6) six months and after being discharged from the Hospital your ... Convict Index. Edward Mullady, Per Surrey, 1816, Certificate of Freedom, 10 Feb 1825. No 047/3170. In lieu of CF 6/852. ---------------------------------------------------- The following shows that Edward Mullady, was assigned fellow convict from Surrey, John McLynn, who was also tried in Westmeath, after Edward had recived his Certificate of Freedom, and testified to his character. ----------------------------------------------------- Document dated 1825. We do hereby certify that John (McGinn crossed out) McLynn who came to this colony by the ship Surry the 2nd which arrived in the year 1816, has not been convicted of any crime or misdemeanour in this Colony; but is to our certain belief, an honest, sober and industrious character haivng served faithfully William Tyson residing in the district of Minot, from December 1816 to April 1818, Bernard Moran from April 1818 to Mar 1824, and Edward Mullady, both residing in the district of Airds from May 1824 to January 1825. Has not been convicted in the Minto Court of any crime. Signed, Resident Magistrate, J. Maine, J.P.
