She left London on the 26th December, and went to Kingston, when she took on board her prisoners, and left on the 24th January. There have been four deaths on board and three births, one infant still born. She did not touch any where and spoke no vessels for this place. Hobart Town Advertiser, 19 May 1848.

Catherine Murphy, aged 40, a widow, was convicted of murder - drowning her own child (2 1/2 yrs of age). Cork County, Ireland 3 Aug 1847. Life Sentence. Departed London on the 'John Calvin' on 24 Jan 1848, arriving Van Diemen's Land 18 May 1848. Native Place: near Cork, Ireland. Aged 40 yrs. Roman Catholic. 5'2". Dark complexion; black hair; dk blue eyes. Country servant. Gaol report: Good. Brother: John, near Cork. Assigned to Ansons Hulk, Evandale (Morven) and Launceston, Tasmania. Application to marry John Grant 1 Jul 1849. Approved. Married John Grant 24 Sep 1849 (ref. 575/1849-37). Ticket of Leave 14 Nov 1854. Conditional Pardon 17 June 1856.
