Family connections for Daniel (Murphy/McGuirk) are: Some amendments added Jul 2025. MURPHY Daniel (Murphy/Mcquirk) was born about 1791, possibly at Kingcourt Cavan Co. Ireland & became a labourer. He was tried for burglary at Cavan Ireland, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 12 1818 after a voyage of 4.5months on MARTHA; he was Catholic. He married Honora (Francis) on 31 12 1821 at Christ Church Castlereagh. He was Free by Servitude by 1822. He is recorded in 1828 with his family as settler at Evan. He was frequently in trouble & in 1846 he was charged with bushranging with firearms along with son Thomas & soninlaw Patrick (Grady); sentenced to 7years & transported to Van Diemens Land (Tasmania). He returned to NSW about 1854. He died in 1867 age76, 3months before his wife. Daniel was a labourer before he was convicted.




Further Note: Daniel reoffended several times and, along with his son Thomas and son in law Patrick Grady, were charged with bushranging with firearms in 1846. Daniel was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1846 for 7 years. He left Honora with 10 children, although 2 daughters had married. The eldest Ann had been murdered (by her husband) and she had three children, which no doubt were also being looked after by Honora. Honora's youngest child was 3 years old. Daniel returned to NSW after his sentence had expired and he died in 1867. Honora died one month later.

Honora and Daniel had 11 children between 1822 and 1843.




Daniel McQuirk age 28 was transported aboard the ship 'Martha' in 1818. He had been sentenced to transportation for life for burglary. He had been tried at Cavan Ireland. His native place was described as a native of Kingcourt, Cavan and he was a labourer.
