Irish Convict Database, by Peter Mayberry. Darby Murphy, Per Anne I (1801), Tried at Galway, 1798, Life. Irish Rebel. Found in 1811 muster. --------------------------------------------------- In her book “Unfinished Revolution”, pages 94, 95, Anne-Maree Whitaker states that Darby Murphy acted as look-out on the Saturday night, 3rd March, 1804, before the start of the revolt, for Joseph Holt, who had agreed to be one of the leaders of the Castle Hill rebellion. She says “Darby Murphy, from Galway, who had been transported on the Anne for the typical agrarian protest of houghing (hamstringing) cattle.” -------------------------------------------------- COLONIAL SECRETARY'S OFFICE, 26 Nov. 1825 HIS EXCELLENCY the GOVERNOR has been pleased to give Directions that FREE PARDONS may be prepared, and submitted for His Signature to the Individuals whose Names are specified below; viz.
