Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

The convict indentures state that John Murphy is 40 years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; Status single and a native of Kilkenny. He was a dairyman (no occupation code for dairyman). John was convicted of stealing money at Kilkenny on 14 January 1836 and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 31/2 inches; complexion dark sallow; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 123. Prisoner number 36-1926.
