WEXFORD ASSIZES. Monday the Assizes for the County of Wexford commenced. ... John Murphy was indicted for stealing ten pound note, and three half-crowns from Mogue McNamara. The prisoner, it appeared in evidence, took the money out of a box in which the prosecutor had kept it. He was taken into custody in Waterford, after having taken his passage on board a vessel in that port bound for Newfoundland. On being taken into custody he confessed the robbery. The Jury returned a verdict of Guilty ; he was sentenced to be transported for seven years. Drogheda Journal, 4 Aug 1827.
