THE MORNING REGISTER THE COMMISSION. THIRD DAY. At ten o’clock yesterday the Judges took their seats on the Bench. Peter Murphy, alias Duff, and Christopher Monks, a boy of about 13 years old, were indicted for having, on Saturday, the of June, barbarously and feloniously entered the house of Pat. Barnewall, Spring gardens, Newcomen bridge, and taken therefrom certain articles, the property of Barnewall, and also some clothes the property of Miss Anne Frued. John Daly sworn and examined Mr. M'Kane. Lives in Spring-gardens, Newcomen-bridge, on the Canal, in the House of Peter Barnwall. ... Dublin Morning Register, 21 June 1826. Peter Murphy, alias Duff, the noted Mud-islander, who was convicted for robbery at the last Commission, and sentenced to seven years, died in the hulk at Kingstown within the last few days. Limerick Chronicle, 16 Aug 1826. We have authority from Doctor SPEAR, Superintending Physician of the Hulk at Kingstown, to contradict a paragraph copied into this Journal the 14th ult. from Morning announcing the death of Peter Murphy, alias Duff, convict on board that ship, no such event having occurred. Dublin Evening Mail, 13 Sep 1826. -------------------------------------------------------------- Mud Island was a low swampy area of Dublin, near the canal. Long ago, it had a reputation for being the home of some non-law abiding people.
