Agnes MURRAY (Mrs. Read) was convicted at Dumfries, Scotland on 15 Sept 1827 for theft. Bad connections, respectable former course of life. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Borneo' 1828. Married - husband George Read, an upholsterer, in Dumfries. One child. Assignments of work service in the Colony and time at the Female Factory, Hobart. Ticket of Leave granted. Conditional Pardon approved. 6 Dec 1858: Stealing. 6mths hard labour at Female House of Correction. Under name "Agnes JEFFREY". Death 1 April 1879 - an Agnes Murray, at the New Town Pauper Establishment. Noted as born Scotland. (Further details needed to verify correct person)
