The Sydney Gazette and NSW Advertiser dated Thursday 23 June 1831 in the Classified Advertising from the Principal Superintendent of Convicts' Office states that Murray John, No. 29-22, Governor Ready, 21 Tope Swayer, Cashel, 5 feet 5 3/4 inches, grey eyes, brown hair (bald), ruddy complexion from M. G. Bunn

The Convict Indentures state that John Murray was 19 years old. He could read; religion Catholic; status single and a native of Carlow (hopefully correct). He was a top sawyer. He was convicted of stealing cloak in Tipperary on 29 March 1828 and sentenced to 7 years. Physical attributes - height: 5 feet 5 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy; hair brown to black and eyes grey. Transport number 22. Assigned to Mr D. D. Matthew's, Hunter's River.
