The Castle Forbes was a 439-ton merchant ship built by Robert Gibbon & Sons at Aberdeen, Scotland in 1818. She made two voyages transporting convicts from Ireland to Australia. Castle Forbes arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales on 27 January 1820. After their arrival in Sydney, 136 men were sent on to Van Diemen's Land Colony (now named Tasmania), arriving in Hobart 1 March 1820. 4 men remained in New South Wales and 4 deaths recorded on this voyage. Family connections for Lawrence (Murray) are: MURRAY Lawrence (Murray) was born about 1789 & became a ploughwright & carpenter. He was tried at Dundalk Louth co. Assizes Ireland in 1819, sentenced to Life & arrived in Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) as a convict on 4 3 1820 after a voyage of 5months on CASTLE FORBES. He was issued his Absolute Pardon in April 1826 in Hobart Town; then apparantly moved to Sydney. He had a relationship with Catherine (Murphy her first relationship). [Some details taken from this Website] Catherine (Murphy) was born on 11 11 1813sic & baptised on 12 12 1813 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She perhaps married secondly George Henry (Fowler) of Sydney on 31 1 1830 at St Marys RC Sydney. She produced 2known children in her lifetime. Details of Catherine (Murphy)s family are given in entry for Eleanor (Davis HERCULES 1802) on this Website. Catherine (Murphy) & Lawrence (Murray) produced at least 2hildren: 1.Michael (Murray) was born on 12 9 1828 at Parramatta & baptised on 7 3 1829 at St Marys RC Sydney. 2.Rosanna.(Murray) was born on 4 4 1830 in Sydney & baptised on 16 5 1830 at St Marys RC Sydney.
