Child: Robert MURRAY or PHINISTER Admitted to Queens Orphanage, New Town nr Hobart (as was the requirement of the Govt for children of female convicts) on 11 March 1851. His father's name is recorded as 'Alexander PHINISTER', mother - Mary MURRAY per Emma Eugenia. Discharged to the care of his mother, now married to 'Nisbet' (or Nesburn). (ref. Orphan School) ? re the surname as it may have been misrecorded. Child: Elizabeth NESBURN born 12 Mar 1853 at Campbell Town. Father - David NESBURN, shepherd. Mother - Mary MORROW (should be MURRAY) (ref. 33/1/31 no. 99)

Mary MURRAY or SCRIMGEOUR was convicted at Perth, Scotland on 24 April 1850 for stealing wearing apparel. Previous convictions. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Emma Eugenia' arriving 7 March 1851. Aged 30 yrs; housemaid; 5'3 1/4" height; can read & write; fresh complexion; brown hair; grey eyes. Married, 2 children (1 child, Robert aged 4 yrs onboard with her) Native Place: Glasgow, Scotland. Husband: John SCRIMGEOUR (SCRIMGER) Sister: Margaret Brother: James VDL: Work services in the Colony. 1851: absent without leave. Sent to serve 1 month at the Female Factory, Hobart. Nov 1851: at Ross - not washing clothes properly. 1 month hard labour. Dec 1851: at Ross - insolence. 4 days in the Cells. Feb 1852: at Ross - disobedience of orders. 14 days hard labour. Feb 1852: at Ross - disobedience of orders. 7 days in the Cells. 1 Feb 1852: Married David Nesburn at Kirklands, Campbell Town, Tasmania. (ref. 37/1/11 no. 74) 8 Nov 1853: Ticket of Leave granted.
