Convict Notes

Details on records inconsistent. At time of sentencing was described as 25 years of age (meaning born around 1812) married to a woman named Martha with six children. Native place listed as "Cockworth" on appropriation list, although no town appears to exist under that name. Received conditional pardon in 1848. Seems to be the same person as "James Murril" who married convict Ellen Gibney (Australasia) in Campbell Town in 1851, age given as 35 (meaning born around 1816). The trail of convict bricks in Campbell Town lists him as "James Murrell - Neptune 1833, married Ellen Gibney", although that date is incorrect (the Neptune did not visit Van Diemen's Land until 1838). Died in 1874, although death registration gives age as 74, which would make him substantially older than the other records.
