The Castle Forbes was a 439-ton merchant ship built by Robert Gibbon & Sons at Aberdeen, Scotland in 1818. She made two voyages transporting convicts from Ireland to Australia. Castle Forbes arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales on 27 January 1820. After their arrival in Sydney, 136 men were sent on to Van Diemen's Land Colony (now named Tasmania), arriving in Hobart 1 March 1820. 4 men remained in New South Wales and 4 deaths recorded on this voyage. Drogheda Journal, or Meath & Louth Advertiser Louth, Republic of Ireland 9 Jul 1823 SPECIAL SESSIONS AT RATHKEALE Patrick Nash, Thomas Nash, John Kilroy, Michael Hartnev, John Fitzgerald, and Thomas Carmody, for being absent from their dwellings. It appeared in evidence, that they were concerned in attacking John King’s house, at Ballyalline, on the 17th of May, and cruelly flogging the inmates and destroying their furniture. The foregoing were sentenced to seven years transportation, and were instantly despatched on their route to Cork, attended by the bitter lamentations of their friends. Patrick and Thomas Nash arrived per 'Castle Forbes' 1823. Thomas Carmody, Michael Hartney and John Fitzgerald and John Kilroy were on board the Medina 1823. _________________________ Patrick Nash was listed as 22 years old on arrival. Crime: Insurrection. Native Place: Limerick. Patrick was 5'6" tall, grey eyes, fair hair, fair complexion. Brother of Thomas Nash, onboard. Colonial Secretary Index: NASH, Patrick. Per "Castle Forbes", 1824 1824 Jan 20: On list of convicts landed from the "Castle Forbes" & forwarded to Windsor for distribution (Reel 6012; 4/3510 p.196) 18/8/1828: TOL, Hawkesbury - Listed as a labourer, mole left ear. 12/7/1839: COF - offence listed as burglary.
