Joseph Nedby was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 29th Sep 1818 and arriving 4th Mar 1819 with 160 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Age 23, native place, Canterbury, Trade: Footman, waiter & Coachman, 5ft 5¾ in. hazel eyes dk brown hair, fair ruddy comp. Surgeon’s report; No complaint, well behaved. Joseph Nedby arrived NSW per Surrey 1818. 1820: Arrived VDL per Eliza. 4/8/1825: Certificate (Newspaper date). 9/7/1833 The Austral-Asiatic Review, Hobart Town: Caution. The Public are hereby cautioned not to employ Thomas Wood and Joseph Nedby, two free Sawyers, they having absconded from my service, without complegting their engagements. S. LORD, JUNR. South Esk River, 24th June, 1833. 9/8/1833 The Tasmanian, Hobart Town: Campbell Town.__Thomas Wood and Joseph Nedby were bound over for their appearance at the Quarter Sessions, for an assault. 13/5/1839: James Joseph Nedby aged 40, a sawyer, married Mary Woodward Flinch, aged 36, a spinster, at St David's Church, Hobart. No children found. 2/3/1841: The Austral-Asiatic Review, Tasmania: Listed as a Drunkard. 8/3/1842 Colonial Times, Hobart: Joseph Nedby, charged by Mr. J. Thompson, with non-performance of contract. It appeared defendant had agreed to thrash a quantity of wheat at 3½d. per bushel, fut finding he had underrated the job he left it.__Committed to the house of correction for fourteen days. Found no death date for Joseph in Tasmania. Cannot be sure if this is him: 17/4/1847 Adelaide Observer: Hugh Crank Kelly, saddler, and James Nedsby, sawyer, were each fined five shillings for being drunk in Hindley-street. 20/8/1849: Adelaide - James Joseph Nedsby fined for being drunk. 1876: SA BDM - Death of James Joseph NEDSBY in the district of Adelaide. Date of death 24/9/1876 buried at West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia.
