SUMMARY OF TRIALS IN THE CITY. Convictions, ... To be transported ‘or seven years— ... Bridget Neill and Mary Heffernan geese-stealing ; ... Limerick Chronicle, 22 March 1828. CITY COURT. At ten in the forenoon of Thursday, the Lord Chief Baron commenced the City Crown business in the Court. Bridget Neill, and Mary Heffernan, for stealing three geese, the property of Thomas Fitzgerald—guilty. His Lordship, after condemning the practice of sending geese stealers for trial to Assizes, inquired into the characters of the prisoners, and was informed that they were very indifferent. One of them, Bridget Neill loudly protested her innocence, and criminated the prosecutors. The prisoners were ordered for seven years’ transportation. Dublin Morning Register, 18 March 1828. Monday seven female convicts under sentence in the City Goal since last Assizes, were transmitted on a car to Cork escorted by a guard of the 32d Regiment, preparatory to transportation. They were comfortably attired in new beaver mantles and entirely new dresses. The names of the above are Alice Kennelly, Ellen Ryan, Margaret Grady, Ann Cavenagh, Bridget Neile, Winifred Hayes, and Mary Cregan. Mary Heffernan, under sentence of transportation for seven years, since Spring Assizes last, expired yesterday, in the City Gaol. She had been condemned for geese stealing.
