Family connections for Joseph (Nettleton) are: NETTLETON Joseph (Nettleton) was born about 1786 or 28 3 1782 & became a painter & glazier. He married firstly (1of3) Esther (???) in about 1804 in England. He was tried for theft of watch etc of Griffin (Andrews) at Old Bailey on 18 9 1805, sentenced to death commuted to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict with his family on 27 7 1807 after a voyage of 6months on DUKE OF PORTLAND. He was issued his Absolute Pardon for good conduct in the Rum Rebellion of 1808.>>> [Some details taken from this Website.] Esther (???) was born about 1774. She arrived in NSW with her family on 27 7 1807 after a voyage of 6months on DUKE OF PORTLAND. Old Bailey: JOSEPH NETTLETON, Theft > theft from a specified place, 18th September 1805. Offence: Theft > theft from a specified place Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Death 616. JOSEPH NETTLETON was indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 11th of July , a metal watch, value 9 l. a gold seal, value 2 l. and a gold key, value 10 s. the property of Griffin Andrews, in his dwelling-house. Guilty – Death. C1804: Married to Esther in England. They had 3 children. Esther died and was buried on 28/2/1811, in Sydney, aged 37. 26/11/1811: Married Esther Jamieson (born in the Colony) at St Phillips, Sydney. They had 4 children. Esther died 16/10/1825. 6/12/1825: Married Elizabeth Anson/Hanson at St John’s, Parramatta. They had 3 children. Joseph received an absolute pardon after the Rum Rebellion for good conduct from the rebel regime, but it was revoked by Governor Macquarie in 1810. Appointed as an Overseer on the making of the road from Sydney to Parramatta. Was the innkeeper of the Wellington Inn on the Parramatta road. 1828 Census: Nettleton, Joseph, 42, absolute pardon, Du.
