Ann Newman had her children accompany her to Tasmania. They were admitted to the Queens Orphan School, New Town near Hobart. George aged 5yrs: admitted 15/04/1844 discharged 17/09/1852 to P. Smith at Ross. Thomas aged 7yrs: admitted 15/04/1844 discharged 24/10/1851 to T. Hardy, Launceston. Letter in records dated 1863. Ellen aged 9 yrs: admitted 15/04/1844 discharged 29/08/1846 to Edward Archer, Longford. Elizabeth aged 12 yrs: admitted 12/04/1844 discharged 18/02/1846 to staff surgeon McDonald.
