Doubts about Date of Birth. He died in 1853 and states he was 40. As he died from dementia, this is highly improbable. Going on court appearances in Lancashire his birth date was probably in the 1790’s. He had an extensive criminal record in England. Also unable to confirm he was born Jewish or converted. He married in Sydney Synagogue in 1841.

ADM 101/54/51824 Medical and surgical journal of the Minerva convict ship from 21 June to 20 November 1824 by Alexander Nisbet, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a voyage to New South Wales. Folios 11-12: David Newton, aged 35, convict: disease or hurt, languor, lassitude and debility with anorexia, headache, pain of backs, limbs and thirst. Put on sick list, 13 August 1824 at sea. Discharged 18 September 1824. Folio 29: David Newton, aged 35, convict: disease or hurt, ascitis. Put on sick list, 14 October 1824 at sea. Discharged 3 November 1824.
