Stephen Newton was listed as 17 years old on arrival in VDL. Birth Place: Liverpool, Lancashire. Transported for 'Stealing Stockings. Stephen was 5'0¾" tall, fres complexion, light brown hair, light grey eyes. Occupation: Fas. Boy. Father: Robert. Mother: Mary. 1832-33 Musters: Assigned to Mr. J. Brumby. 17/8/1832: The Tasmanian, Hobart: Stephen Newton, a young tailor, being found regaling himself in the Scotch Thistle public-house, on Sunday, during Church hours, was ordered a dozen stripes on the rear. 1835 Muster: Public Works. 11/4/1838: CP 19/5/1845: Married Ann Bartlett at St. George's Church, Hobart. Stephen was 28, a Tailor - Ann was 21, a spinster. Children: 19/12/1839 Stephen Newton, born Hobart-died Victoria 1856. 1/7/1840: Robert Newton-died in South Melbourne 1883. 1/7/1848: John Newton, born Melbourne, Vic., died Richmond, Vic., 1885. 1/7/1852: Phillip Newton, born Melburne - died in Fitzroy, Vic, 1912. 6/3/1846: Steerage passenger Hobart to Port Phillip per 'David'. 29/3/1855: Stephen Newton died of Delirium Tremens, 5 days. Address: off Little Bourke St. Melbourne East, Vic. Listed as a tailor, 39 years old, father:Robert, mother:Mary, born in Liverpool and 28 years in VDL. Witness: Ann Newton, literate, present at death. CONFUSING?? 11/4/1878: Stephen Newton died at Cascades Pauper Establishment of Senilis.
