Convict Notes
Edward Taylor died 13th October 1835, leaving Ellen a widow with 5 young children. On 12th March 1836, Ellen married William Davis at St Peters, Richmond. William was the eldest son of Joseph Davis (Convict, 1807, "Duke of Portland") and Mary Ann Rogers (Convict, 1808, "Speke"). Willam and Ellen had a further 4 children, born between 1837 and 1843. Ellen died 5th March 1884, aged about 84 years.
Ellen was convicted in Roscommon, Ireland and sentenced to 7 years transportation. She was transported aboard the ship "John Bull" arriving in Sydney 18 December 1821. She was described as a town servant with a pitted complexion and dark hair and dark eyes. The 'John Bull' departed Co. Cork, Ireland on the 25 July 1821. There were 80 female prisoners aboard. The ships master was William Corlett & the ships surgeon was William Elyard. In the colony, Ellen married Edward Taylor (Convict, 1816, "Atlas") on the 19th September 1824, at Castlereagh.
