Ellen Nolan was convicted at Kilkenny, Ireland for stealing from a shop. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Blackfriar' 1851. Housemaid; aged 24yrs; 4'11 1/2"; married, widowed; 1 child, Patrick, on board with her. Native place - Co. Tipperary. Services in Colony Permission granted to marry Married James Smith 1854 Ticket of Leave 2 Jan 1855 Conditional Pardon 10 Feb 1857 Child: Patrick Nolan - admitted to St. John Orphanage, New Town, Hobart on 2 Mar 1853 (aged 2yrs 8mths). Father's name recorded as Daniel Nolan. Child died 26 Oct 1855 from whooping cough and inflammation of brain.
