Married woman, widow (husband deceased for 3yrs); aged 28yrs; country servant; 5'1"; pale complexion; black hair; blue eyes; Roman Catholic; lost use of right arm. Native Place: Co. Mayo. Speaks Irish only. Mother: Mary Brothers: Martin & James Sister: Ellen (also transported on same ship) Assigned to work services in the Colony of Van Diemen's Land. New Town, hospital, House of Correction. 25 April 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 13 Jan 1857: Application for Permission to marry - Mary Nolan, Blackfriar, to Thomas Hinds (free, which may mean free settler or free by servitude). 17 Feb 1857: Application for Permission to marry - Mary Nolan, Blackfriar to John Connolly ('John Calvin ship). Approved. 10 March 1857: Marriage. Mary NOWLAN (note spelling of name on register), aged 30yrs, widow to John Connolly, aged 34yrs, a splitter. At the home of Dr. Crowther, Castle Forbes Bay, Huon district, Tasmania. (ref. 37/1/16 no. 333)




Mary Nolan was convicted at Co. Mayo, Ireland for stealing. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Blackfriar' 1851.
