William Norman married Eliza Douglas, daughter of Joseph Douglas (convict), 25th Jan 1827 at St Matthew's Windsor NSW
Tried and convicted at the Sussex Assizes on 29th July 1820, sentenced to transportation for life. Left England on 8th October 1820. Ship:- the 'Prince of Orange' sailed with 136 male convicts on board of which 1 died died during the voyage. Arrived on 12th February 1821. Hampshire Chronicle Monday 7th August 1820 p. 3 SUSSEX. - The assizes for this county commenced on Saturday, at Lewes, and ended on Monday evening. - The Lord Chief Justice tried prisoners at the Crown Bar, and Mr. Baron Wood sat in the Nisi Prius Court. - William Norman was indicted for a burglary in the dwelling house of John Campion, Esq. the High Sheriff, at Danny, on the night of the 30th of March last, and stealing four shirts and other articles or wearing apparel. It appeared that the prisoner had been brought up in the family of the prosecutor and was employed by him as a domestic servant. In the month of Feb he had been dismissed in consequence of improper conduct, and in the night of the 30th of March, he came down from London to the prosecutor's house, broke open the laundry, and took away the articles in question, with which he went to Brighton, and from thence to London, where he was detected in the act of disposing of them by sale. Guilty - Death. Married free settler Eliza Douglas (daughter of convict Joseph Douglass, 'Baring' 1815 & his wife Mary) in 1827 at Windsor, they had 6 children between 1828-1839. Eliza had arrived with her mother and 4 sibblings on the 'Woodman in 1823. William died on 15th May 1857 at Sydney age 56. Sydney Morning Herald Monday 18th May 1857 p. 1 On the 15th instant, at his residence, 163 Liverpool Street East, of dropsy, William Norman, aged 57, deeply regretted by a large family and very large circle of friends. Eliza died on 3rd November 1872 at Surry Hills, Greater Sydney age 62. Sydney Morning Herald Tuesday 5th November 1872 p. 10 THE FRIENDS of Messrs. THOMAS and EDWARD NORMAN are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of their late beloved MOTHER, Eliza Norman ; to move from the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. W. R.
