John NORTHWOOD was convicted at Stafford, England on 15 Oct 1834 for stealing a fowl. Previous offences for stealing a chicken and potatoes. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Layton' 1835. Single man; aged 26 yrs; trade - a whitesmith.. Native place of birth: Wolverhampton VDL: Assigned to work services. 4 April 1838: charged with embezzling money from his Master. Acquitted. 1838: Spring Hill Road party. 8 Sept 1840: Ticket of Leave granted. 1841: Free Certificate issued. 1849 Application for permission to marry - to Alice TOMPKINS/TONKINS.
