The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

… was committed to the Castle. Richard Nott, charged the oaths of Messrs. Geo. Eaton and Benj. chief constables of the hundred of Diss, with having in his possession a quantity of forged Bank Notes; he also stands further charged on the oaths of several innkeepers at Diss, with having paid them several one pound notes, which which proved be false, forged, and counterfeit.—Committed to the same Gaol, Norfolk Chronicle, 7 Sept 1816. Richard Nott, for having forged notes his possession with intent to utter the same, was sentenced to transported for 14 years. Norfolk Chronicle, 29 March 1817. ----------------------------------------------------- Hulk Report: HO-9-8_4 Received from Thetford, May 3d 1817, with 7 other convicts. Richard Nott, age 58, Felony.
