CHILDREN: David CURTIS born 14 Nov 1854 at Morven (Evandale), Tasmania. Father - Patrick CURTIS, carpenter. Mother - Mary OBRIEN. (ref. 33/1/32 no. 954) Mary CURTIS born 1 Jan 1858 at Morven (Evandale), Tasmania. Father - Patrick CURTIS, wheelwright. Mother - Mary OBRIEN. (ref. 33/1/36 no. 1484) DEATH OF MARY: Mary CURTIS died 28 March 1889 at Westbury, Tasmania. Aged 68 yrs, widow, senile decay. (ref 35/1/58 no. 1362) DEATH OF HUSBAND: Patrick CURTIS died 27 May 1881 aged 74 yrs, at Westbury, Tasmania. Trade - cooper. Cause - dysentry. Notified by son David Curtis, cooper at Westbury. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 24 June 1853: Mary O'Brien (Blackfriar) to Patrick CURTIS (free or free by servitude). (ref. 52/1/6). Ref. note - there were two Mary O'Brien's on the 'Blackfriar' however the other Mary had noted on her Conduct Records that she married a Wm Smith.) Further note: A Patrick Curtis was a convict on the 'Egyptian' 1840 and was granted a Conditional Pardon in 1849, so would most likely be this person. MARRIAGE: 25 July 1853 - Mary O'Brien (Blackfriar), aged 24 yrs, widow to Patrick CURTIS, aged 27 yrs, bachelor at the Manse, Evandale according to Church of Scotland rites. (ref. 37/1/12 no. 1296).

N.B. There are two persons named Mary O'Brien on this voyage of the Blackfriar. Mary O'Brien (Identifier 1) was convicted at Kerry, Ireland, with her sister Anne, on 3 July 1850 for cow stealing. Both convicted and sentenced to transportation. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Blackfriar' arriving 1851. Aged 28yrs; can read; cook (plain); single woman. Native place of birth: Co. Clare, Ireland. Sister: Anne O'Brien (also transported to VDL) Colony of VDL: work services 1851: at New Town, Morven, Brickfields. 14 Aug 1857: Certificate of Freedom, at Morven.
