On Arrival to Sydney Joseph and his brother William Ockendon were sent to the Hunter Region in New South Wales. Jospeph's funeral was held in the Parish of Goulburn in the County of Argyle by the Rev M Brennan Roman Catholic. He married Mary A Whelan an Irish woman on 13 August 1838 and they had 4 girls Catherine, Mary, Jane and Alice
