LONGFORD SPRING ASSIZES Thomas O'Donnell, Robert Walsh, and Thomas Mathews, for the highway robbery of Thos. Daly, of ten pound note, eight shillings and six pence in silver. Daly proved that he had been to Mount-Nugent with a load of wheat and having sold and received the price, he was returning home about nine o'clock on the evening of the 9th of November, when the prisoners, with two others, jumped out from behind the ditch within a quarter of a mile of Abbeylare, dragged him off his cart, rifled his pockets of the above sum. They were found guilty, and sentenced each to fifteen years' transportation. Roscommon & Leitrim Gazette, 7 March 1840.
