Police Report. Dec 14. Oldfield and Stewart, who had been found on board a vessel intending to effect their escape from the Colony, were sentenced each to Port Macquarie, to labour for the period of three years. Sydney Gazette, 16 Dec 1824. ------------------------------------------------- Punishments in the Police Office. 4 Oct 1824. William Oldfield, and Richard Stewart, Detected in escaping from the Colony at Twofold Bay. Sentence: Port Macquarie each for 3 years. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22/12/1824. Transported to Port Macquarie per Sally. Original conviction: Sussex Ass. 24 March 1817, Life sentence. Clerk, Richard Stuart, per Larkins. Colonial conviction: Sydney, Tried by D Wentworth, 3 years. (William Oldfield was also on the same list, but his name had been crossed out.) ---------------------------------------------------------- 9 Feb 1825. The Respectful Memorial of William Oldfield, Humbly sheweth That your Memorialist was sentenced some time ago, by a Court of Magistrates at Sydney (together with one Richard Stewart) to three years Banishment to Port Macquarie, for leaving Sydney for the Southern Settlement, without first obtaining permission from the higher authorities to that effect, he being a prisoner of the Crown. That the acquaintance and company of Memorialist with the said Richard Stewart, hath previous to this event, involved, and sunk Memorialist in a series of trouble and distress, without meriting same, from taking any part, act, or deeds with him in any crime he might have been concerned in, save only that of lodging with him, and keeping his company. That the said Richard Stewart is now at Port Macquarie, the detention place of your Memorialist, whose company Memorialist for ever wishes to shun, and whose person he never more wishes to see. ------------------------------------------------------- Letter from The Colonial Secretary to the Commandant at Port Macquarie, Dated 28 November 1825. Sir, I have the honour of requesting you to cause Richard Stuart and William Oldfield, otherwise, Taylor, who came to this Colony by the ships Larkins and Mariner, respectively, to be transmitted to this office by your earliest opportunity.
