William OWEN was convicted at Montgomery on 22/02/1844 for stealing (quantity of brass). 7yr Transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) aboard the 'Lord Auckland' arriving 15/1/1844. Married, wife Martha. 1 child (name not recorded). Brother, Edward. Sisters, Elizabeth & Mary. Aged 66 years; 5'1"; occupation - dealer; Protestant. Native place - Welshpool. Period of probation, 15 months at Wedge Bay, VDL. Died at Wedge Bay 18/04/1845. (ref. Convict Conduct record book)
