New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930 for Owen Owens 5/8/1831 on trial for cattle stealing. Was orderly in gaol along with Samuel Wilson and Richard Holden The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser (NSW : 1803 - 1842) View title info Thu 22 Sep 1831 On Tuesday morning the Under Sheriff arrived at the gaol with respites for eleven out of the nineteen unhappy malefactors then under the last sentence of the law, in the condemned cells. Their names are as follows :-Patrick FitzSimmons, Edward Cook, John Hall, James M'Kinlay, Henry Beedles, John Mills, Thomas Thompson, Samuel Wilson. Owen Owens, John Moylan, and Henry Knowles. All of whom were immediately conveyed on board the Louisa which sailed the same day for Norfolk Island. Warrants were received that afternoon-also for the execution of John Leadbitter and John Lucas ; both of whom will undergo the awful penalty of death to-morrow morning. Lucas, it will be remembered, is the man who was lately tried for the inhuman murder of constable Waterworth, at Parramatta.
