John Dennington Money Palmer was the illegitimate son of Major General John Money of Norfolk, a soldier of fortune and pioneering aeronaut. After arriving in Sydney, John Palmer was bitten by the gold bug and spent most of the rest of his life in the mining town of Tambaroora NSW.
