Born in 1818 at Lancaster, William was a soapmaker’s laborer and was convicted at Lancaster Quarter Session of house-breaking at the age of 17. William requested permission to marry fellow convict Emma Poole (transported 1836 onboard Henry Wellesley), which was granted when they married at Hexham, Newcastle, Christ Church in 1840. This union produced many children. William received his Certificate of Freedom on the 5th of July 1843.William passed away 8 May 1885 at Quirindi, New South Wales, Australia
