David Parry was born in Denbighshire, and was listed as 24 years old on arrival. He was transported for ‘Stealing in a dwelling house and robbing his master of £5. David was 5’6” tall, brown hair, dark brown eyes, fair complexion, single. 1835 Muster: Assigned to R Willis Esq. 12/5/1842: TOL 31/5/1842: Permission to marry Sarah Reeder (free). 1/8/1842: Married Sarah at St Luke’s, Campbell Town. (He was listed as 24 and a blacksmith with a TOL and she as being 16). They had 11 children. 29/4/1845: Recommended for a CP for the Australian colonies. 15/1/1846: CP approved. In 1855 a postal service began in Hagley. David Parry was appointed Postmaster on 1 July 1855, probably operating an unofficial post office from the Hagley Inn. A post office was officially opened on 10 June 1865, in a building that was demolished in 1970. This building also had a store called the "six day store" run by the postmaster and his wife. 23/3/1887: David Parry died of an Embolism at Westbury, aged 75 25/3/1887 Daily Telegraph, Launceston: Parry.— On 23rd March, at his residence, Post Office, Hagley, David Parry, in his 76th year. (Melbourne papers please copy.) 26/3/1887 Daily Telegraph, Launceston: THE Funeral of the late David Parry will leave his late residence, Hagley, on Sunday, the 27th instant, at 3 o'clock, and proceed to St. Mark's Church for interment. Friends are respectfully invited to attend. — D. K. Harley, Undertaker, Church-street, Deloraine. Sarah died 30/3/1898, aged 73 from Influenza.
