1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 40 years old, a pit sawyer and ploughman. He was assigned to the Loan Gang (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON27-1-5$init=CON27-1-5). 1840, 18 September: He was granted a Ticket of Leave. 1845, 12 August: His Conditional Pardon was approved and later extended to other Australian colonies (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P486).

1831, 10 August: Convicted at Gloucester for housebreaking. This was his second offence, having previously served 3 months for stealing a rabbit. He was married with three children and his wife Ann was at his native place of West Gloucester (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-10$init=CON18-1-10p40). 1831, 1 September: He was admitted to the prison hulk Justitia, moored at Woolwich, and from there he was sent for transportation on 10 February 1832 (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
