He was tried for horse theft at Warwick Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 7 1799 after a voyage of 9months on HILSBOROUGH; the ship was riddled with typhoid & bad management. He had a relationship with Mary (Jones). He was Free by Servitude by 1808. He died on 11 5 1833 age67. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary (Jones) was born about 1760 or 1770. She was tried for stealing clothes at Chester Great Sessions, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 12 6 1801 after a voyage of 10months on EARL CORNWALLIS. She was Free by Servitude by 1808. She was buried on 4 5 1827 age about56or67. She married at age16 Michael (Gannon) joiner with permission on 31 8 1824 at St Phillips CofE Sydney; she subsequently applied for her husband to be assigned to her; they produced at least 6children. She died on 25 3 1878 age69 & was buried at Cooks River. ..Michael (Gannon) was born about 1798/1800 at Mullingar co.Westmeath & became a carpenter/turner/farmer. He was tried for highway robbery w/his brothers Patrick & Robert in assaulting Ann (Read) at Baltrasna Co.Meath, on 10 1 1820, & stealing silver tea spoons etc of William (Read) (among other offences) at Meath Ireland in 1820, sentenced to Life, held at Kaimainham Goal Dublin from 12 7 1820 & arrived in NSW as a convict on 22 12 1820 after a voyage of 4months on ALMORAH;: on the ship he was taken ill, 2-10 11 1820, with a stomach disorder; he was 5'6.5" fair md-middling? complexion brown hair hazel eyes. He is recorded as a carpenter on stores & still a carpenter on 15 1 1822. He was a joiner when assigned to his wife after 1824 & lived in the Rocks area as a carpenter/joiner; one of his achievements was to supply a cedar desk to the Police Office about July 1825. He was issued his Ticket of Leave for Sydney on 18 7 1829; & was a gardner. His Ticket of Leave was refreshed on 11 2 1835. He prospered as a builder and accumulated real estate. He was issued his Conditional Pardon on 21 11 1835 & Absolute Pardon on 1 10 1840-when he was described as ruddy pockmarked complexion brow/grey hair grey eyes. By 1843 he was undertaker for Catholic burials & become an auctioneer and commission agent in Lower George Street, but this business was damaged by his brother’s insolvency. He then obtained a publican’s licence for an Inn on Cook’s River Road, Newtown, and was settled at Tempe by the end of 1845. He became bankrupt within two years & was criticized for fraudulent transactions, contradictory evidence on oath and criminal neglect in failing to keep proper accounts. From 1848 he was involved in politics. In November 1850 he bought a heavily timbered estate of 1905acres in St George parish (known as Gannon’s Forest and later Hurstville) & bought & sold property.
