Convict Notes
John was described as a native of Sligo Ireland, single, a stable man and a labourer, when he was tried and convcited for house breaking at the York Assizes on 24th March 1827, he was sentenced to transportation for life. Left England on 22 July 1827. Ship:- the 'John I' sailed with 188 male convicts on board of which 3 died during the voyage. Arrived on 25th November 1827. Married Elizabeth Aull (daughter of convicts Robert Aull, 'Francis and Eliza' 1815 & Jane Thompson, 'Francis and Eliza' 1815) on 29th April 1837 at Maitland, they had 11 children between 1836-1857.
