Waterford Assizes. … Patrick Cantwell and Patrick Corcoran, indicted for burglariously entering, the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling-house of Lieutenant Fish, and stealing thereout a quantity of plate, house linen, wearing apparel, &c. were arraigned and pleaded Guilty, The Judge intimated to the prisoners that as their crime had been unattended by any circumstance of atrocity or violence tending to endanger the lives of the inmates of the house they had plundered, he would merely record sentence of death against them, but would use his influence to procure a commutation of that sentence to transportation for life. ...
