Patrick Keenan was transported on the Brampton, departing 8th Nov 1822 and arriving 22nd Apr 1823 with 185 passengers.
The 'Brampton' ship was built in 1817 at King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. Originally used by the East India Company and then whaling before being a convict transport ship. Many of the Irish convicts on this ship were convicted under the Insurrection Act, for White Boy offences. 24 April 1823, the Sydney Gazette reported: On Tuesday last arrived from Ireland, with 183 male convicts, the ship Brampton, Captain Moore. She left London the 28th of July last; sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 8th of November; and last from the Cape of Good Hope, the 20th of February, from whence she brings eleven convicts.—Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Price, R. N. The guard comprises a detachment of the 3d Regt. (Buffs.)

IRISH CRIME: Carlow Morning Post, Monday 19 August 1822 p2 ‘From the Clonmel Herald of Saturday: ‘On Thursday evening [so 15 August] our Assizes ended, when Judge Moore had the several convicts brought up to receive judgement, and proceeded to pronounce sentence in the most impressive manner. There was nothing of peculiar atrocity in any of the cases so as to require much expiation if we except, alone, that of David Henessy, who was tried for murder and acquitted of that offence but found guilty of manslaughter. [... here refers to Henessy's crime] "Patrick KEENAHAN for highway robbery, to be hanged 4th September" Patrick Keenan's death sentence was afterwards commuted to transportation for life - and he arrived in NSW on Brampton in 1823, recorded as Patrick ‘KEENAN’ with details above. He was a native of King's County, though his crime and trial were in Tipperary.
