Bryant Charles Payne was born on 10 August 1795 in Beaminster, Dorset. He married Ann DEVLIN on 21 April 1840 in Port Macquarie, New South Wales. They had five children during their marriage. He died on 8 April 1854 in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, at the age of 58. Bryant (Brian) Charles Payne was born to Samuel Payne and Mary Keech. He was convicted of forgery at Dorset Assizes (that he "uttered and published as true a forged promisory note with intent to defraud against the State - 4 counts") and sentenced to transportation, arriving in NSW on the 'Earl St Vincent' in 1820. He gained a Ticket of Leave at Maitland, NSW in February, 1839. He married Ann Devlin at St Thomas's CofE in Port Macquarie in 1840. He was assigned to Dr Douglass and loaned to Wentworth, who put him to work on the miniature paintings in the drawing room of Vaucluse House. However, because he wasn't officially given leave from his master the Governer at the time ordered him to be arrested.
Other occupations - shoemaker, watchmaker, plumber and glazier
