William Payne was listed as 27 years old on arrival - his native place was Cork County. William was 5'6½" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers, blue eyes, literate, roman catholic, stout made, scar on left arm above elbow, scar on knuckle aof forefinger and middle finger left hand, small scar left whisker, scar over right eye. Married, 3 children - Wife, Lavinia at Kidderminster. Father: Richard - at Halifax Mother: Irelia Brothers: Thomas, Richard, George, Silvester and John who was on board with William. Sister: Jane. 30/4/1845: Released from 1st Stage of Probation. 16/10/1849: TOL 2/3/1853: Free Certificate. 10/2/1854: Possibly married Bridget Holmes (Maria 1849) at St. Andrew's, Launceston. 11/1/1856: Death of son, John Payne, aged 2 months, from Dysentry - Bridget Payne, mother, at Charles Street, Launceston. No date of death found for William Payne.

Was convicted in January 1843 for the December 1842 burglary of a butcher shop, where he and his brother John Payne stole more than 100lbs of mutton. His brother was also sentenced to transportation for 10 years.
