The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

"The records of trials on the Midland Circuit, which comprises the counties of Northampton, Rutland, Lincoln, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Warwick, were destroyed by a clerk in the 19th century and do not exist earlier than 1860."

The following is a list of the prisoners tried, and the several sentences passed upon them:— … H. Pearce, for stealing a grey gelding, the property of J. Power, of this town; J. Hutchins, for breaking into the house of T. Watson, of this town, and stealing therefrom a chest of tea; were severally found guilty, and sentence of death passed Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 10 April 1815. (John Hutchins was also transported on the same ship)

Doc dated 6 Oct 1824. Henry Pearce, per Ocean, of Lane Cove. Affadavit re Loss of his ticket of Leave. Cumberland. To wit. Henry Pearce residing at Lane Cove, being sworn, deposeth that he received a Ticket of Leave in 1822, from the Colonial Secretary’s Office which said Ticket of Leave was destroyed by one of his children who took same out of his box, and saith that he has made no improper use of it. Signed Henry Pearce, his mark X Sworn before me, this 6th day of Oct 1824. Signature (illegible) Supt of Police. One of his children got at his box, took out the T of L, and tore it all to pieces.

The records of trials on the Midland Circuit, which comprises the counties of Northampton, Rutland, Lincoln, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Warwick, were destroyed by a clerk in the 19th century and do not exist earlier than 1860. This was the reply I received when I contacted the Warwick Assizes record depository.
