Registration Place New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia 1859 - APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE QUEEN'S ORPHAN SCHOOL - 27 Dec 1859 Name of Children; - Pierce, John - Aged 9 years & 10 months Pierce, Mary Ann - Aged 8 years & 10 months Pierce, Susannah - Aged 4 years & 6 months Pierce, James - AGED 3 years & 7 months Application for admission 27 December 1859 and 25 July 1863; Father: John Pierce, - sentenced to 6 months hard labour for Larceny. Ship; Argyle. Free by servitude; 11 Nov 1839. Trade; Labourer. Mother; Catherine Carmichael. Per Ship - Tory 1 Residence; Green Ponds Free by servitude. Employed - Looking after her children Mother is totally destitute & has no means of support for the children. Has a boy named Peter Pierce who is 11 years & 8 months old and is in the service of Mr. Bradshow, New Norfolk The Govenor approved admission of the two older children to the Queen's Orphan School Pierce, John - Aged 9 years & 10 months Pierce, Mary Ann - Aged 8 years & 10 months. The Govenor approved 7 shillings a week being paid to Catherine Carmichal for Maintenace of the child Sussanah Pierce until the father is released




Western Times Devon, England 8 Jan 1831: DEVON EPIPHANY SESSIONS, 1831. APPEALS John Pearce for stealing fowls at Roseash, guilty. John Pearce was listed as 32 years old on arrival in VDL (B1798). Place of Birth: Roseash near Exeter. Prior convictions: once for stealing a smock frock sentenced 7 rs, served 3 mths & 4 days at the york hulk. Goal Report: Transported before. Bad. John was 5'6¾" tall, dark brown hair and whiskers, light grey eyes, I.P.M.P. inside left arm long scar back of left thumb has had his Collar Bone Broke, can read. Married with 3 children. Wife Mary at Worrington near Ash (Roseash??) near Exeter. Father: John Pearce, a labourer at native place. 8 brothers and sisters all in about native place except one in the East Indies. 1832 Muster: Assigned to Mr. Viveash 1833 Muster: Public Works 1835 Muster Assigned to Mr. Perryman 15/4/1834 Colonial Times, Hobart: John Pearce was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment and hard labour at Constitution Hill, for absconding from Grass-tree Hill road party. 1840: Free Certificate.
