Family connections for John (Pearson) are: Some amendments added Nov 2025. PEARSON John (Pearson) was born about 1789 & became a shoemaker bootmaker cordwainer. He was tried w/1other for possession, on 4 3 1814, of forged notes at Old Bailey on 20 4 1814, sentenced to 14years, held probably at London/Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 27 1 1815 after a voyage of 6months on MARQUIS OF WELLINGTON (Smees records consistently show MARQUIS CORNWALLIS 1815). He was a shoemaker when he married Mary (Ryan) on 25 9 1815 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1825. In Australia shoe & bootmaking was regarded as a vulgar & idle trade, which he was a part of. In September 1826 he was fined 5shillings for intoxication. He was recorded in 1826 as a shoemaker. He was a boot maker when he died on 8 7 1829 age42. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary (Ryan) was born on 1 2 1796 & baptised on 12 5 1797 age15m at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She was recorded in 1800 & 1802 with her mother & at Hawkesbury in 1806 with her mother. In 1809 part of 40acres at Nelson was held in trust for her by her father in law. It may be she who is recorded with Catherine (Frazier/er WILLIAM PITT 1806) in 1811 & 1814 in Sydney. She died on 6 8 1825 age29 in Sydney & was buried, as (Pearson), at St James CofE Sydney. After his parents deaths he was cared for by family/friends-at age10 he was cared for by Thomas (Norris) at Cornwallis. He had a relationship. He died on 13 4 1900 age91. 3.Mary Jane (Pearson) was born in 1820. After her parents deaths about 1829 she was cared for by family/friends-at age8 she was cared for by Roger (Connor) at Wilberforce. She died on 22 6 1892 age about71. 4.Catharine Sarah (Pearson) was born on 29 1 1825 at Pitt Town & baptised on 26 3 1826 at St James CofE Pitt Town. After her parents deaths about 1829 she was cared for by family/friends-she was cared for by her step-grandfather William (Mason) at West Rocks Pitt Town. The entry for John (Pearson MARQUIS OF WELLINGTON 1813) advises 'young Elizabeth (Pearson) was age15 when she married Thomas (Norris) at Cornwallis Cudegeong N.S.W. So Elizabeth (Norris nee Connor) was John Pearson's first cousin, their mothers Elizabeth and Mary were sisters'. John, a shoemaker by trade, was tried and convicted at the Old Bailey on 20th April 1814 for the possession of forged bank notes, sentenced to transportation for 14 years. Left England on 1st September 1814. Ship:- the 'Marquis of Wellington' sailed with 200 male convicts on board of which 2 died during the voyage. Arrived on 27th January 1815. Married Mary Ryan (daughter of convicts John Ryan, 'Friendship' 1788 & Sarah Wooley, 'Neptune' 1790) on 5th September 1815 at Sydney, they had 4 children between 1816-1823. In Setember 1826 John was Fined for intoxication Sydney Gazette Saturday 16th September 1826 p. 4 John Pearson, one of the people vulgarly called shoemakers, was taken by surprise in Windsor, in a state of intoxication. Whatever is the reason, the "craft' have, during the last week, been exceedingly jovial, whilst their disappointed customers cannot walk out for want of shoes. If you go to a shoemaker in Windsor, and leave your measure, he is sure to tell you a story that he must make one for the Police Magistrate, or for the Clergyman, or for the Foreman of the Grand Jury, or some noted Layman, before he can touch your's; so artful are the excuses set up for the measure of idleness and tippling. They congregate together to chat about Bank of England notes and recruiting serjeants, until compelled to return to the trite saying, "nought like leather!" Fine five shillings. [I'm a little way from home, Sir; I'll get it to-morrow. Here he received a suitable admonistion; and we believe Pearson felt sensible of the good intentions it embraced.] Mary died in 1825, then John died in 1829 leaving 4 children as orphans, they were left with relations and family friends. John Pearson was related by marriage to the Norris family. John and Sarah Ryan (nee Woolley's) first born, a daughter Elizabeth born was on Norfolk Island. Elizabeth Ryan married Roger Connor on 9th January, 1810 in St. Phillips Church in Sydney. Their daughter Elizabeth was born on the 11th October, 1811 at Cullen Bullen in New South Wales. Young Elizabeth was only fifteen years old when she married Thomas Norris, in Cornwallis Cudegeong N.S.W. So Elizabeth Norris (nee Connor) was John Pearson's first cousin, their mothers Elizabeth and Mary were sisters. Charles Pearson 12 years of age was on the property of John McDonnell. John McDonnell was free by servitude. He arrived on the Guildford 1 in 1812. His property was "Summer Grove" at Pitt Town, Luskintrye. He had 2250 acres, 50 acres were cleared and 20 acres was under cultivation. He had 30 horses, 800 cattle and sheep. The Overseer of the property was John Ryan 35, the brother of Sarah Pearson (nee Ryan) and the Uncle of young Charles Pearson. Also another John Ryan a convict, John Thompson a convict, Robert Weathers, free by servitude and Edward Williams a Ticket of Leave man were working at the property. John Pearson 10 years of age was on the property of Thomas Norris 22, born in the Colony. The property was at Cornwallis, with Thomas was his 18 year old wife, Elizabeth (nee Connor - married 1825); she was also born in the colony and their baby daughter Elizabeth and Thomas's brother Richard 20. Young John Pearson is registered as a lodger. Mary Jane Pearson 8, was on the property of Roger Connor 49 at Wilberforce. Roger Connor arrived free in the colony in 1790 on board the Neptune, the ship that Mary Jane Pearson's grandmother Sarah Mason (Wooley/Ryan) arrived on. On the property in 1828 was also Roger's wife Elizabeth 36, John Burne a convict, John Harris free by servitude. William Reynolds free by servitude. Catherine 6, was with her Step-Grandfather. William Mason had married Catherine's grandmother, Mary Ryan (nee Woolley-Second Fleet the Neptune) and was on his property at "West Rocks, Pitt Town and in 1828 he was 61 years old, his two sons William 25 and Samuel 22 (by Mary Ryan) where working on the property, Catherine Frazier his housekeeper was with him, as was John Morgan 30, free by servitude, and Owen Walters a Government Servant. William Masons property was 40 acres, 25 acres had been cleared and cultivated. He owned one horse, 1 cow and sheep. Old Bailey Trial Trascription. Reference Number: t18140420-29 314. JOHN PEARSON and ELIZABETH WRIGHT were indicted for that they, on the 4th of March , feloniously had in their custody and possession, divers forged bank notes, with intention to defraud the Governor and Company of the Bank of England . To this indictment the prisoners pleaded GUILTY . PEARSON, aged 24. WRIGHT, aged 20. Transported for Fourteen Years .
