The Tasmanian. Fri 23 May 1828. Page 3. EXECUTION. E X E C U T I O N We have again the melancholy duty of acquainting our Rea- ders, that six of our fellow creatures have paid the forfeit of their lives to the offended laws of their country, this morning at half past 8 o'clock. Phelim Crampsey alias Bonner, John Grimes, Edward Burke, Thomas Pearson, Thomas Collins, and Edward Hangan, were executed pursuant to their sen- tence. They were attended by the Rev. Messrs Bedford Carvosso, and Connelly, the first three being Roman Catholics, and appeared sensible of their awful situation and to hear the dreadful shock with apparent composure, except Burke, who stepped forward on the platform, to say that Robert Wilson alias O. P. Bob, was the cause of his death. We sincerely hope this dreadful example will ope- rate as a timely warning to others, to avoid bad company and Drunkeness, the chief causes of the untimely end of these men. Our limits will not admit of our enlarging at present on this truly distressing subject, but we shall return to it next week. The several prisoner gangs were all drawn up to witness the horrid spectacle, we trust it will have a salutary effect upon them. The following prisoners under sentence of death, have been respited during His Excellency's pleasure. Wm. Har- dy, Chas. Stephen, Wm. Fenton, Jas. Garrigan, Wm. Dor- rell, Wm. Hall Purcell, and Michael Cox. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/233095592?searchTerm=Thomas%20Pearson
