JAMES WILLIAM PEAT, Theft > simple larceny, 21st February 1828. 682. JAMES WILLIAM PEAT was indicted for stealing, on the 6th of February , 1 hat, value 5s., and 1 pair of gloves, value 3d. , the goods of Richard Perry . RICHARD PERRY. I am a boot-maker . On the 6th of February, I was in my shop, in Bath-street ; a person gave me information, and I missed my hat and gloves: I went out, and overtook a boy - I found my hat and gloves in a house. MARY ANN CRAWLEY . The prisoner came into Mrs. Chapman's shop, and asked if he might leave a hat and gloves, and two blacking-bottles there; he left them on the counter - the hat was put under the counter. JOSEPH HASSAY . The prisoner came into my shop, about four o'clock in the afternoon, with two bottles of blacking, and in about half an hour I saw him in Perry's custody; I live about three minutes walk from Chapman's. CHRISTOPHER SHOILS . I saw a boy go into Perry's shop with the blacking to sell - I live opposite, and saw him run out with a hat in his hand; I went to the door, and saw him come out of Chapman's shop without anything - I went and told Perry. SARAH CHAPMAN . A boy came to my shop, bought a penny-worth of sweetmeats, and asked if he might leave the hat, gloves, and blacking - I cannot swear to the prisoner. ALEXANDER MOON . I took the prisoner.(Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner's Defence. I left nothing in that shop. The prisoner received a good character. GUILTY. Aged 14. Recommended to Mercy . - Confined Seven Days . ------------------------------------------------ ADM 101/34/8 . Medical and surgical journal of the convict ship Hive from 18 November 1833 to 27 June 1834 by George Fairfowl, surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed transporting convicts to New South Wales. Folio 9: James William Peat, aged 21, convict; case number 11; disease or hurt, cynanche tonsillaris. Put on sick list, 6 February 1834. Discharged 12 February 1834.
