1843, 6 April: He was sentenced to an extra two years with hard labour for absconding and was to be returned to Port Arthur. 1844: He was removed from Port Arthur to serve 3 months' probation at Glenorchy "then if well conducted takes 1st Class wages" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON32-1-4$init=CON32-1-4p78). 1847, 8 June: William Peebles received his Certificate of Freedom (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P574).

1838, 7 April: He was committed for trial (along with Thomas Walker) for "feloniously entering the dwelling house of James Sherwin, Hobart and stealing" a blue cloth coat valued at 3 pounds, a silk handkerchief valued at 3 shillings and other items. 1838, 23 April: William Peebles was convicted at the Hobart Quarter Sessions for larceny. He was sentenced to seven years' jail. The Governor decided that 2 years of the sentence should be served at Port Arthur (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P574).

1835, 25 February: His original sentence was to be extended by two years for absconding (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P574). 1835, 6 March: He was sentenced to three years' jail for absconding, with hard labour on the Hulk chain gang (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P574).

1832: On arrival in VDL, William Peebles was 17, listed as "a boy" and single. He said he had a previous conviction for vagrancy and had been transported to VDL for stealing brass weights (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-35$init=CON31-1-35p107). 1834, 28 January: He is on a list of convicts who have been apprehended (see Hobart Town Courier, p2).
