At Rutland assizes. on Friday, there were three prisoners for trial, viz. Wm. Pell. for stealing a rick cloth, the property of the Rev. H. Baker, of Greetham ; John Pell, for receiving the same, knowing it to have been stolen ; and George Orton, for stealing a sack of bran, the property of Mr. E. Arnold, of Whissendine. Leicester Herald, 10 Mar 1830. -------------------------------------------------- On Friday morning, John Pell, who was convicted at the Rutland Assizes, and sentenced to transportation, escaped from the hnlks. Immediate notice was sent into Rutland, and the convict was retaken at Uppingham on Wednesday afternoon, and after violent resistance was safely lodged in Oakham gaol.
