Hubert Howley PEMBERTON was convicted at Exeter, Devon on 17 March 1849, along with Albert Smart and Wilson, for arson - setting fire to a stack of oats. 10yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Fairlie' arriving 4 July 1852. Gaol report: "Very good". Single man; aged 30yrs; a clerk; Church of England; can read & write; pale complexion; brown hair; blue eyes; 5'4". Native Place - Tobago, West Indies. Brought up at Islington. Uncle: Rev'd C Pemberton, at Wiltshire, England. Pass Holder upon arrival in VDL No recorded offences or punishments. 20 Sept 1853: Ticket of Leave granted 3 April 1855: Conditional Pardon approved Marriage: Application for permission to marry, approved, 13 July 1854 to Susan Mulqueeney (free).
